At this time of year, two years ago, SK Telecom T1 took home the Summoner’s Cup against China’s Royal Club. In that moment, the legend of Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok was solidified. Now, on Halloween, fans of the world’s most popular videogame and eSports title, League of Legends, will watch history be remade as SKT looks to bag their second world title against fellow Korean team KOO Tigers.
This year’s grand tournament featured a myriad of storylines that both enthralled and decimated fans of the world’s most popular eSports title. Who can forget the meteoric rise of European team Fnatic, who bagged an impressive perfect Summer Split win-record on the way to the World Championship? Or the harrowing season that the North American powerhouse team Cloud 9 had to go through in order to make it to the League’s biggest stage?
