Riot Games Acquires Stoneheart and Rising Thunder Developers Radiant Entertainment

San Francisco-based Radiant Entertainment, the developers of fighting game Rising Thunder and crafting game Stonehearth, were recently acquired by Riot Games on March 8.

Headed by fighting game veterans Tom and Tony Cannon (the owners of the EVO tournament series) and Seth Killian (the namesake of Street Fighter character Seth), the company’s initial goal was to develop a beginner friendly fighting game in the form of Rising Thunder.

Unfortunately, the game was cancelled because of the sale to Riot.For now, we will be permanently closing Rising Thunder on March 18th. Thanks to everyone who participated in the Alpha!” the press statement from Tom and Tony Cannon read.

This isn’t the first time Riot has been near the realm of fighting games. As a matter of fact, a few of the company’s programmers developed a League  of Legends modification for Super Smash Bros. Brawl last year, “for fun” of course.
