The Season 5 World Championships is fast approaching, but before we look ahead to Europe, let’s take a look at who will be fighting who. The group draw concluded over the weekend, meaning the 16 qualifying teams have now been divided into 4 groups. The top two of each group will be decided by a double round robin, and those teams will advance to the bracket stage.

As a reminder, Riot Games’ rules have made it so that no 2 teams from the same region may be in the same group. With that in mind, take a gander at how the teams were matched up below:

While not as stacked as the other groups from the draw, many teams here have something to prove. The Tigers are out for redemption as their last international showing ended in disaster. CLG will want to see how far faith can actually take them, or if they used it all up in the NA playoffs. PaiN on the other hand will be looking to showcase the growth of the Brazilian scene, which seems to be the fastest rising wildcard region in the world right now.

GROUP B

Fnatic (Europe #1 seed)

ahq e-Sports Club (Taiwan #1 seed)

Invictus Gaming (China #3 seed)

Cloud 9 (North America #3 seed)

If Fnatic were going to prove that their regional dominance could translate to the international stage, this would be the perfect crop to test themselves with. Invictus Gaming’s Lee “KaKAO” Byung-kwon is one of the most feared junglers in the world and ahq have been comparably dominant in Taiwan as well, with Liu “Westdoor” Shu-Wei leading the charge on his assassin picks.

GROUP C

SK Telecom T1 (Korea #1 seed)

Edward Gaming (China #2 seed)

H2k-Gaming (Europe #2 seed)

Bangkok Titans (Wildcard Team #2)

This group is defined by SKT and EDG who many consider the top 2 teams in the world, and who have also faced each other in the finals of the Mid-Season invitational, which EDG won. Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok will no doubt be looking for revenge with his pride as the best player in the game on the line. H2k’s Ryu “Ryu” Sang-wook will also be looking for some revenge of his own, as the last time he faced down Faker was the infamous Zed mirror match.

GROUP D

LGD Gaming (China #1 seed)

KT Rolster (Korea #3 seed)

Team SoloMid (North America #2 seed)

Origen (Europe #3 seed)

Despite having a couple of #3 seeds, this is a very competitive group especially with the quality of top laners including overall Korean MVP Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho and Paul “soaZ” Boyer. LGD also have a former world champion on their roster in Gu “Imp” Seung-bin of Samsung Galaxy White fame.
