Everyone who ever follows eSports has dreamed about being a professional gamer at one point in their lives. Heck, even our very own eSports by INQUIRER.net crew have wanted to dabble in professional gaming for as long as they can remember.

Gab “GBStep Lazaro spends hours everyday on his arcade stick in hopes of being recognized in the Fighting Game Community (FGC). Ivan “Van” Espineda spends hours by the hearth fantasizing how to sling cards as well as Jeffrey “Trump Shih. Kyle “BaguetteOnMyLVL Edralin obsesses over Fiora and pretends he is French.

Then there’s Aileen “chaos Cerrudo who just desperately wants Clement “Puppey Ivanov to notice her. And for the love of God, I just want to break 4k MMR in Dota 2. For most of us, it’s mostly just a pipe dream as grinding to 7k MMR in Dota 2 or the Grandmaster League in Starcraft 2 takes too much blood, sweat and tears. One has to be at the absolute pinnacle of any game for the professional ‘scouts’ to acknowledge your existence. Enter SC2VN. This will give you the chance to experience the life of a pro player.

SC2VN is a Visual Novel that puts you in the shoes of a foreign player in South Korea trying to break into the professional Starcraft 2 scene. Much like regular sports, eSports comes with it the baggage of drama and hardships and SC2VN tackles these issues.

You play as ‘Mach’ (whom you can choose to be either male or female because gender equality!) who is somewhat of an established semi-pro player participating in Video Star League (VSL) when you take control of the protagonist. Your goal is to become a bonafide professional Starcraft 2 player.

The setting is in 2011 when Starcraft crazed Korea was still torn between the new age Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty and the well-loved but aging Starcraft: Brood War. What SC2VN highlights very nicely in its whole narrative are the difficulties up-and-coming players have to go through to make it ‘big’. Now, we don’t want to spoil anything for you because this game is definitely worth your time so its best you check it out yourself. But sadly my friends, its message is clear as day: ‘Pro gaming is not at all fun and games.’ Nonetheless SC2VN narrates an engaging story that draws you in completely.
