Fire Base: CrossFire and Thoughts on the Game – an Exclusive Interview With Mr. Errol Tan
The CrossFire Stars 2015 National Finals is now fast approaching and Esports by INQUIRER.Net is excited to provide you with an in-depth coverage of the largest CrossFire tournaments in the Philippines.
For our first interview, we have Mr. Errol Tan, one of the people behind the continued success of CrossFire here in the Philippines. He talks about the general aspects of the game, CrossFire 2.0 and more!
EC “Rave28” Guevarra: Thank you very much for accepting this interview. Can you please introduce yourself to our readers?
Mr. Errol Tan: I’m Errol Tan, Junior Product Manager for CrossFire.
ON GENERAL MATTERS
Rave28: When did you begin publishing the game here in the Philippines?
Mr.Tan: We began publishing the game in the year 2009. GameClub Philippines has been the sole publisher of the game here in the country, which has been originally created by SmileGate.
Rave28: How many people have played the game so far? Can you give us an estimate on the amount of players who play in a single day?
Mr.Tan: There are 12 million unique users in our database and on a normal day, the number of concurrent players average at 40,000 users.
Rave28: Did you expect the game to stay that long in the market?
Mr.Tan: Yes, we expected the game to be able to hold out in the market, mainly due to the fact that we have planned out the things that we wanted to do beforehand.
ON CROSSFIRE 2.0
Rave28: Everyone knows by now that CrossFire 2.0 will be released this year. What are the new features that will be included in the new game?
Mr.Tan: For CrossFire 2.0, players can expect new guns and weapons which will add another level of depth to the game’s mechanics and metagame. We also updated the user interface in order to make it friendlier to users.
In addition, we placed other stuff that will make the game more stable while at the same time improving its graphics.
Furthermore, we have placed a matchmaking system in order to add a competitive element into the game. We also plan to tweak the clan system in the near future!
ON THE GAMING SCENE
Rave28: What do you think about the Philippine CrossFire scene?
Mr.Tan: It is healthy at the moment, thanks to the fact that we have instituted a solid tournament schedule at all levels of the game. We also want to reach out to more people and sponsors so that we can keep the scene alive and kicking.
On a more technical level, we are adding new servers and upgrading existing ones in order to accommodate the influx of new players that are coming in. We also want to give the players a better gaming experience; this is why we wanted to roll out CrossFire 2.0 and make everything smooth.
Rave28: How do you plan to improve the profile of first-person shooters in the Philippines?
Mr.Tan: Well, we have plans down the pipeline, so just stay tuned for more surprises!
Rave28: Thank you very much!
Mr.Tan: Thanks for your time!
Thus concludes the interview with Mr. Errol Tan, who stated that CrossFire has always been going strong since day one and that GameClub is excited about the prospective success of the upgraded version of the said title.
