Fire Base: The Mind of a FPS Player

Most people would think of FPS as just something that requires an extreme amount of aim and reaction. In reality, there’s more than that.

Entry fragging involves having some insane reflexes and quick aim in order to be able to beat any defenses that the opposing side can have. It is not a coincidence that these players have some of the least kill-death-assist (KDA) ratios in-game.

However, Aldrin “Aldrin” Paul Borabon of Pacific.Macta has proved that he can be a beast in his own right despite the fact that he is the first one entering into a site: He has posted positive KDA stats in his matches at ESF Cebu.

In an interview with Aldrin, he reveals many details on the art of playing first-person shooters at a very high level, including practice routines, tournament predictions and much more!

FEATURED STORIES

Earl Carlo Guevarra (Rave28): Good morning!

Aldrin Paul Borabon (Aldrin): Welcome sir!

Rave28: Can you please introduce yourself to our readers?

Aldrin: I am Aldrin Borabon, 17 years of age, attacker for Pacific.Macta. I am also known as “ALDRIN” in-game.

On Playing the Game

Rave28: Everyone knows that you are a top player. How do you prepare for your matches?

Aldrin: First of all, I try to get enough sleep as much as I can. If I don’t have a good night’s sleep, I can’t usually concentrate really well on my matches.

Secondly, I make sure that I eat and drink well. It is hard to be sick, you know.

Finally, I do a three-hour shift on a free-for-all (FFA) server. It really helps to improve my aim and it allows me to refine my headshots as well.

Rave28: Describe a day in the life of Aldrin Borabon.

Aldrin: I sleep at night, then I wake up for breakfast, eat it and then go off for practice. In order to keep up with our competition, we need to practice for 10 hours a day. My friend, Christian “Revenge” Amores has even practiced for 20 hours straight at a single point in time!

Rave28: How many hours do you practice as a team?

Aldrin: We practice for 60 to 70 hours a week. We know that if we want to be able to keep up with the international scene, we need to improve our mechanics and coordination.

Rave28: What do you do to have that strong aim?

Aldrin: It is a combination of raw talent and sheer practice. That’s all I can say.

Rave28: What do you do when you see an enemy?

Aldrin: I play extremely aggressively. When I see an enemy go out of position, I immediately capitalize on it.

On CrossFire Stars

Rave28: If you win the CrossFire Stars (CFS) National Finals, will you celebrate?

Aldrin: There is no time to celebrate. We want to be ready for China.

Rave28: Do you think you can get into the top 4 once again?

Aldrin: Top 4? Come on!

We want to win the championship! We wan to show those Chinese teams what we are capable of and we want to hit them back!

Rave28: Describe the experiences you’ve had last year at the CFS Grand Finals in Seoul, Korea.

Aldrin: It was really cold. We were not ready for the climate and it was winter season out there. As for the event, it was extremely organized and it ran very smoothly.

Some Other Things

Rave28: How’s ESports Festival thus far?

Aldrin: It’s pretty good. I really enjoyed it.

Rave28: Do you have anything to say to the fans out there?

I’d like to thank everyone who has supported us thus far, as well as our sponsors, particularly Pacific. I’d also like to thank all of our haters, you pump us up! Thank you!

Shoutout to Joan!

Rave28: Thank you!

Aldrin: Thanks!

The above interview showed that one needs to combine raw skill along with a rigid training regimen in order to be able to become one of Philippines’ best first-person shooter (FPS) players!

That concludes the interview! Until next time!
