After months of not being able to fully showcase their prowess, Mineski.Dota is finally proving the world their worth to be a part of the international competitive scene in Dota 2. They are now competing in the Frankfurt Major, after qualifying in the Southeast Asian Qualifiers.

The Frankfurt Major is the first of the four Dota 2 major tournaments by Valve. With over $3 million (Php 141 million~) prizepool, the tournament will surely pave way more opportunities for Mineski.Dota.

The participating teams are separated into four groups for the Group Stage. This will determine which teams go to the upper bracket and which teams fall in the lower brackets for a, do or die, best of one series.

Groups A and B of the Group Stage ended with team Evil Geniuses (EG) securing a spot in the upper bracket. Completing the top 4 are European teams: Virtus.Pro (VP) and Vega Squadron along with one of the Chinese teams, Vici Gaming (VG). Meanwhile, Newbee and one of the Southeast Asian representative, Fnatic will be playing in the lower brackets. Joining them are OG and unknown.

FEATURED STORIES

Next up are Groups C and D where our very own Mineski.Dota will fight in. They will compete against two Chinese teams: EHOME and CDEC, and The International 3 (TI3) champion, Alliance in Group D.

Will they follow Fnatic’s Fate?

Fnatic took two losses during the group stage. Even though Fnatic gave a lauding performance during game 1 against EG, they weren’t able to sustain their momentum and the TI5 champions took the next two games. Fnatic weren’t able to win against Newbee as well.

The Malaysian-based team will have to give it their all in the lower bracket, one mistake and they will not go further in the tournament.

Now it’s Mineski’s turn where they will compete against CDEC. With the current performance of CDEC during the past months, Mineski might just be able to beat them given the right circumstances. But the Chinese teams are well known for their precision and patience if they are not having the upper-hand.

The two teams had an encounter during the Nanyang Championships in Singapore which resulted to a draw. Mineski won the first game to everyone’s surprise. No one expected them to perform well against a Chinese team but they did.

EHOME, however, remains as one of the tougher teams in their group, followed by Alliance who is slowly proving to return as one of the top tier teams in the scene. Alliance is b[A]ck as what most are saying.

It will be a difficult road for Mineski but they are not the Mineski that they were before. They have a strict routine when it comes to game practices and they proved to be more disciplined.

The Main Event

If they land on the lower bracket, they still have a chance to climb back up. Anything can happen in a best of one match and Mineski usually brings their A-game during the first match. They also perform better and have better momentum under pressure like their match against Fnatic where they won 3-2 in The Summit 4 Qualifiers.

They are the underdogs in this tournament and throughout Dota 2 history the Philippine teams, from Execration in Starladder Season X to Rave in Dota 2 Asian Championships (DAC), they always wowed the audience for their indomitable spirit-whether they win or not.
