Tekken 7: Fated Retribution and New Character Akuma.
After months of no significant news about Tekken 7, Harada finally broke his silence and released a big one, and I mean a BIG one. AFter the King of Iron Fist 2015 tournament in Japan, Harada took the stage and unveiled a never before seen trailer for the Tekken 7 update entitled “Fated Retribution”.
The trailer, aside from the fancy new logo, showcased new graphics for the game. The character designs looked a lot smoother and everything looked less gritty in general. For months since the game’s initial release, the Tekken community had been skeptical about the graphics quality of Tekken 7, so this upgrade is definitely a welcome change.
What made the trailer extra big however, concerns the actual storyline of Tekken 7. In a previous trailer for Tekken 7, a mysterious figure was shown to be speaking with one of the game’s newest characters, Kazumi Mishima (wife of Heihachi Mishima). Kazumi asked the figure to kill Heihachi in the case that she is unable to do so herself. The figure agreed and mentioned that it will be a way for him to repay his debt to her. In this trailer the figure’s back was shown only to reveal the figure to be one of the most popular characters in the fighting game genre, Akuma from Street Fighter.
Akuma’s gameplay and moveset is very similar to those of his in Street Fighter. It appears that despite the game running on Tekken’s mechanics (combos, movement, controls), he will be played very similarly to his Street Fighter counterpart.
In an intermission during the tournament, Harada and Ono had a mini skit where Harada was asking Ono for permission to use a certain character. At the time, it was assumed that it was a hint towards Tekken x Street Fighter, a cross-over game which the Tekken community has been anticipating for a long time. Fans of Tekken from every social media exploded during the character reveal with mixed opinions about the unprecedented appearance of a Street Fighter character in Tekken 7, but it seem alright to say that everyone was super hyped about it.
Tekken 7 has been confirmed for Playstation 4. No exact date has been given yet as to when it would be released, but stay tuned right here for more updates.
