There’s Sports in ESports, $250K for NBA 2K Tournment
This year, NBA 2K will give us the Road to the Finals where players can enjoy their favorite game, compete with the best players in the world and earn heaps amount of money.
The tournament will start on February 15 up until May 8 in North America. There will be 16 qualifying games where players need to win four games in order to qualify. The 16 winners on both Playstation 4 and Xbox One will compete in a single elimination round and the victors will fight for the championship and $250,000(Php 11.9 million~) prize money in the finals this June. It will take place the same time as the NBA Finals itself.
Alfie Brody, Vice President of marketing for NBA 2K said that they want to encourage more fans to enjoy the game in a much larger scale.
Competitive gaming doesn’t revolve around Multiplayer Online Battle Arena Games (MOBA), Fighting Games and First Person Shooters (FPS) anymore. With the market growing up to 43% this 2016, it’s no surprise that console games are also diving into the scene.
