Twitch Introduces Chat Replay; No Kappa
Twitch is where you go to watch your favorite streamer or watch that hottest tournament from the comfort of your own home. What makes Twitch even more enjoyable is reacting with the thousands of other people watching the same broadcast. You would feel the sadness, the frustration and the laughter of people thousands of kilometers away. All the emojis and the trolling make any broadcast all the more fun and alive.
The problem is when you would just watch a replay of a broadcast, the chat will no longer be there. You’re watching the replay of the famous Six million dollar echo slam by Saahil “Universe” Arora. But all you see is silence. There is a void left by the zany presence of Twitch chat. It just isn’t the same, it’s a ghost town.
Twitch aims to fix the rub. Starting today, Twitch will be capturing chat messages from live streams. And in the succeeding weeks, the chat messages will be present in future replays. They will be played right beside the video in all of its yolo glory.
Unfortunately, the feature is in no way retroactive so we won’t be able to relive the full epicness of the Six million dollar echo slam nor will we get to mourn with the rest of the world when they thought their beloved Danil “Dendi” Ishutin died in a fire in Malaysia when in reality it was a simple electrical plug spark.
But what that means is that all future streams will have Twitch Chat Replay. It’s also just in time for the Dota 2 Shanghai Majors. Maybe this time it will be a three million dollar reverse polarity. No kappa.
