Team Secret Edge Out Evil Geniuses in Thrilling Encounter

The second Upper Bracket match of the day featured two fan favorites in Evil Geniuses vs Team Secret. Mind games are sure to be the main attraction as the two of best captains in Dota 2 history go head to head leading teams brimming with talent. Peter “ppd” Dager vs Clement “Puppey” Ivanov. Jacky “EternalEnvy” Mao vs Artour “Arteezy” Babaev. Let’s get it on.

Team Secret led by Johan “pieliedie” Astrom’s Lion and Jacky EternalEnvy’s Spectre took command of Game 1. But knowing Evil Geniuses they make a real competition out of it after dropping the first match in the series.

Evil Geniuses started the second game draft taking away Puppey’s signature Engima for their veteran Support Clinton “Fear” Loomis. Secret then pick up Earth Spirit for Alwiwi “w33” Omar. Secret ride the lightning as they take First Blood on Syed “Suma1L” Hassan’s Death Prophet with EternalEnvy’s Anti-Mage picking up the bonus gold. Evil Geniuses sneak in an 11 minute Roshan for Arteezy’s Lycan and they are back on top in terms of gold. With Lycan’s potency in taking down towers, Evil Geniuses are back in the driving seat taking objective after objective. EG then proceed to take the 18 minute mid barracks as hapless Secret struggle to defend. A big Mana Void gets to push the Americans back for the time being before a second set of barracks falls. The EG death ball wasn’t going to be denied as they take the 24 minute GG from Secret.

Both teams will hold nothing back in the deciding Game 3. W33’s Invoker finally shows his face and an interesting Pugna for Sumail as EG looks to limit Secret’s spell casting. Secret are slowly gaining the lead by winning little fights across the map in the early game. It goes on until the mid game and Team Secret are outmaneuvering EG at every turn and forcing them to breaking point. The Pugna gambit for Sumail is turning out terribly for the American side. Evil Geniuses make a risky Smoke play that is punished severely by Team Secret’s superior net worth and execution. When the game was running away from EG, a couple of misplays from EternalEnvy and w33 gave EG some much needed gold. It was then EG’s turn to get overeager in the high ground as they are wiped by Team Secret’s staunch defense. Both teams want this bad as clashes go back and forth. Things get even more interesting when Arteezy picks up a Divine Rapier on Sven. Secret finally take the Mega Creeps but EG have a very easy time defending thanks to Sven. Evil Geniuses are forced to go all in at mid with Sven, who just picked up a second Rapier, leading the charge. But w33 easily deals with the Sven using the Exort combo and with the help from Lion’s Ultimate. With Sven down, Double Divine Rapiers down, EG calls the GG at 55 minutes.

Evil Geniuses are relegated to the Lower Brackets while Team Secret continue their stellar march towards the Mystic Staff.
