A lot of things have to come together to make the perfect team play. Not least of which is communication and the nearly impossible task of reining in your inner need to get a frag for the good of the overall outcome.

At the 8th North American GosuCup Semi-finals match between MixUp and Cloud 9, MixUp’s own Seagull, demonstrated the perfect storm of decisions that led to an epic come-from-behind victory after trailing heavily against the more experienced Cloud 9 roster.

With both teams grabbing wins on LiJiang Tower, the final round came down to Seagull — playing as Genji — and his decision NOT to engage on Cloud 9’s Kyle “KyKy” Souder on the Symmetra.  Cloud 9 contested and held the objective right from the outset of the match thanks to their aggressive combo of Tracer and double Zenyattas.

As Cloud 9 pushed MixUp back to their spawn point, Seagull made the call that he will cut off the rest of Cloud 9 from reinforcing their front line. He found himself perched on the top room overlooking the control point where he waited patiently for KyKy.

FEATURED STORIES

A few moments later, KyKy did indeed enter the top room with the goal of dropping a teleporter to help his team advance quicker into the objective point and seal the win for Cloud 9. Seagull cleverly hid quietly, careful not to be spotted by KyKy as he deployed the teleporter.

Once he left, Seagull quickly destroyed it before engaging into an unsuspecting Cloud 9 team. He eliminated five players with a Genji ultimate. MixUp rallied on the back of Seagull’s surgical strike, winning the match on a double overtime.

Seagull’s game-winning play belies the key ingredients necessary to pull off amazing feats of skills; as shown on the POV look through Seagull’s eyes, it was combination of efficient team communication and his own game sense that led him to not only predict where KyKy would drop down his ultimate, but to also rescue a seemingly lost game from just one misstep from Cloud 9.

With the win, MixUp proceeded to the finals where they eventually lost to team EnvyUs.
