ESL and Top CS:GO Orgs Join Hands to Create the World eSports Association, Aims “to Further Professionalize Esports”
MLG Columbus attracted 1.3 million viewers.
The largest CS:GO leagues for this year carry millions of dollars in prize pools.
Today, a new milestone for eSports and CS:GO is reached as the Electronic Sports League (ESL) and eight of the biggest multi-gaming organizations in the world have officially announced the creation of the World eSports Association (WESA).
Aiming to “further professionalize eSports”, WESA has the power to create standardized regulations for the tournaments that run under its control as well as to do revenue sharing for the teams that are under the auspices of the said organization.
Here is their official vision statement, according to their official website:
WESA’s vision is to create an authentic framework to support and amplify sustainable growth of esports (sic), based on the shared values of fairness, transparency, and integrity and sharing that growth between the players, teams and leagues.
More importantly, it provides for the creation of a “player council” that gives players a platform from which they can influence the policies of WESA, particularly on league policies, player salaries and tournament rules, among others.
The eight organizations that are signatories to WESA are as follows:
- Fnatic
- Natus Vincere
- EnVyUs
- Virtus.pro
- G2 Esports
- FaZe
- Mousesports
- Ninjas in Pyjamas
WESA is registered as a company in Switzerland, with some of the signatories including Ralf Reichert, who is the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ESL and Hicham Chahine from NiP’s parent company, Digilife.
