Filipino Team TNC Qualify For ‘The International’ Dota 2 Championships
After defeating fellow Filipino squad Execration and Malaysian powerhouse Fnatic, TNC have qualified for this year’s ‘The International’ Dota 2 Championships in Seattle, Washington. They are the first Filipino Dota 2 team to attend the prestigious event since Mineski’s appearance at the inaugural iteration in 2011.
TNC, who recently swapped mid-laner John “Teehee” Abanto for American Jimmy “Demon” Ho, won the free-for-all qualifier to get into the main South East Asian qualifiers. There, they finished the 10-man round-robin group stages at a 7 – 2 score tied with the two aforementioned teams, who they then took down in a series of tie-breaker matches.
‘The International’ is an annual multi-million dollar tournament hosted by Dota 2′s developers, Valve Software. Since 2011, sixteen teams from across the globe have competed every year for a gradually increasing prize pool; this starts at $1,600,000 with additional amounts sourced via crowd-funding. ‘The International’ in 2015 boasted $18,429,613. This year’s current prize pool is at the $13,608,010 mark, more than last year’s at the same point in time.
Joining TNC in Seattle this August 3 – 13 from the South East Asian competitive region is the already invited Korean MVP Phoenix and 2 other teams to be decided tomorrow through a double elimination bracket. One can check the qualifier’s status on Liquidpedia.
