Iloilo-Based Team Beats Mineski at the ‘Pro Gaming Series’
Last Saturday, Acclaim EmpireX (AEX) has defeated Mineski (MSKI) 2-1 in an intense best of 3 series at the Pro Gaming Series (PGS), the local version of the League Championship Series a.k.a. the LCS. This denies the 3rd Mineski VS Imperium Pro Team finals match-up since Summer Split 2015 and will also be Mineski’s first time out of the finals after three splits in a row.

Acclaim EmpireX is the only League of Legends team outside Luzon competing at the PGS. While two members are stationed at Manila, the rest of the team play together at an internet cafe of the same name in Iloilo. Famous for their cheese picks like Janna mid and Ezreal top in competitive play, this team ain’t afraid of breaking out of the meta, leaving viewers, analysts and their opponents themselves puzzled and skeptical during the match. Of course, it doesn’t work 100% at the time and picking something out of the norm does have major drawbacks. But that’s exactly where they shine – their picks are weird but weird for a reason.
After three splits since they entered the PGS since November last year, Acclaim EmpireX finally made it to the playoffs for the first time in their eSports career and will fly straight to Manila for the finals to face the currently strongest team in the Philippines – Imperium Pro Team (IPT). On July 23, the grand finale will be held live on- stage at Rampage 2016 – the biggest League of Legends event in the country.
AEX and IPT will not only battle for the Pro Gaming Series 2016 Summer Championship Title and the cash prize of P 150,000 but also the honor of representing our country at Vietnam for the Garena Premier League (GPL), an international tournament with six participating Southeast Asian countries. The GPL is one of the many leagues that leads to ‘Worlds’, the annual world League of Legends tournament with $ 1,000,000 as the champion’s cash prize.
