XSplit Developer Acquires Social Platform, Player.me and Tournament Management Service, Challonge
Attention all local streamers and tournament organizers: SplitmediaLabs Limited, the developers behind the internet broadcast and live streaming software, XSplit Gamecaster and XSplit broadcaster, announced the acquisition of Player.me, a social platform targeted for gamers, and Challonge, a tournament management service used by most organizers here in the Philippines today.
Investing a total of $10 million for the acquisition, the company aims to bring the gaming community closer with content and help improve the players’ gaming life all over the world. With these three combined, imagine eight million registered users, two million unique monthly visitors and over 90,000 tournaments will be created each month.
Player.me is a social platform catered to gamers. It can connect your youtube account, tag games and users, show off the list of video games you played and interact with fellow gamers. Think of it as like another facebook but for gamers like us. It recently released an android and iOS platform as well.
From official leagues to internet cafe hosted matches, Challonge has been a popular choice by not only most local tournament organizers but also used in international events such as Capcom Pro Tour, WCS World League in Taiwan and Hong Kong and Red Bull Kumite 2016.
It’s actually exciting to think about what kind of mix these platforms bring to eSports. What if you could keep track of all the tournaments you’ve joined with the results and placement included in your profile page. A scout from an esports organization will eventually stumble upon your page and bam, you’re in their radar. You could be a potential player for (insert favorite team here). Think of the possibilities!
