Iloilo Team Acclaim EmpireX Might Miss Garena Premier League in Vietnam
Acclaim Empire X (AEX) is in the brink of missing out the Garena Premiere League (GPL) in Vietnam because four of their players still do not have their passports, sources said.
The problem rose after AEX submitted their passport applications last July 26. Processing takes 10 days to complete, including a one day delay due to shipment of passports to Iloilo. The downside is that team is required to be in Vietnam at Aug. 6 as the tournament proper starts at Aug. 8. The team will not make it in time if they wait for the normal process.
The summer split champions have already asked the help of Garena Philippines to process their passports faster. They have also reached out to Senator Bam Aquino, an eSports advocate, to assist them.
Garena Philippines will be giving an update on tomorrow (Monday) regarding the situation.
According to Francis Chu, the owner of AEX, getting passports for the players was not in his mind before the finals since they expected Imperium Pro Team (IPT) to win the Philippine Garena Split.
He also said that reaching the finals was already a huge accomplishment for the team and winning one game against the dominant IPT was already an achievement for them.
On the bright side, the AEX organization has a lot of reasons to be optimistic as two DOTA teams recently had VISA problems for the International 6, but they were able to clutch the process just in time with the help of the eSports community. The GPL is an official tournament in which teams from South East Asia battle it out for a chance to be included in the 2016 International Wildcard Qualifiers. The winner of the wildcard qualifiers will then have a chance to compete in the 2016 World Championship series.
