Stephon Marbury To Build His Own eSports Team
Former NBA veteran Stephon Marbury will soon join the likes of Shaq and J.Lin in entering eSports.
In a video posted on his personal Weibo account Monday, the former Knicks star point guard will build a team of players for eSports.
“Today I’ll announce some exciting news through my personal Weibo,” Marbury said in the video. “I decided to march [into the] esports industry to build my own team and recruit players, from my fans, in no time. Looking forward to the journey.”
No further details were revealed in the short announcement video, making it yet another announcement of an announcement.
It’s most likely, however, that Marbury will form a team of players to be based in China. Since 2010, the former all-NBA 3rd All-Star team member has been playing in China. He has since won three championships with the Beijing Ducks of the Chinese Basketball Association.
Marbury’s popularity in China is so strong that in 2015, he opened a museum in Beijing to celebrate his career.
