Pinoy pro gamer is NBA 2K17 Asia champion
There’s no denying Filipinos’ unwavering passion for basketball, and this love transcends even into the virtual hoops realm.
Custer George Galas, a Filipino professional gamer, brought glory to the motherland after bagging the championship title in the NBA 2K17 Asia Tournament on Wednesday, January 25.
The Caloocan-native bested a pool of 8 competitors from Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines and Korea, and met Taiwanese pro ChihChung Huang in the finals.
Galas chose the Golden State Warriors as his finals squad, while his opponent went with the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers.
Contrary to last year’s NBA finals where the Cavaliers won it all, Galas’ Dubs edged Huang’s Cavs through four 6-minute quarters with a final score of 50-35—netting him the cool $3,000 (over P149,000) grand prize. He also won a brand new PS4 console unit.
After winning the NBA 2K17 leg of the Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit (ESGS) last October, Galas earned the right to represent the country, along with runner-up Augusto Anthony de Jesus. Khristian Ibarrola
