ONE Esports Announces $500K Dota 2 Invitational in Singapore

ONE Esports has announced its first event: the ONE Dota 2 Singapore World Pro Invitational. Taking place on December 20-22, 2019 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore and will feature 12 top Dota 2 teams competing for a US$500,000 prize pool.

The Singapore-based company intends the event to be the first of many in its up-to $50 million foray into the electronic sports industry. According to the official press release, “ONE Esports will feature multiple blockbuster game titles across Asia and hold a number of esports events held alongside ONE Championship martial arts events in 2019.”

Among these events are ONE TEKKEN Tokyo Invitational and ONE Street Fighter Tokyo Challenge on October 5 and 6 later this year, as well as the ONE Dota 2 Jakarta World Pro Invitational in April 2020.

Working alongside ONE Esports in this venture are Romanian production company PGL, Singaporean peripherals manufacturer Razer, and Japanese advertising firm Dentsu. PGL, best known for its organization of Dota 2 Pro Circuit events like The Bucharest Major, has been contracted to assist in production. Dentsu and Razer, on the other hand, will be working on different aspects of marketing and business development for the project.

ONE Esports was first announced in the November of 2018 as the esports arm of ONE Championship, a Singapore-based mixed martial arts event promoter. ONE Championship itself was founded in 2011 by entrepreneur Chatri Sityodtong alongside former ESPN executive Victor Cui and has raised $250M in investments to-date.
