Rev Major 2019 Survival Guide

Rev Major 2019 — the biggest Filipino fighting game event to-date — is happening this weekend, September 28 -29 at the Solaire Resort and Casino. Now in its third year, the latest installation of this homegrown gathering of the fighting game community has gathered over 874 attendees from across the Southeast Asian region and beyond.

While mega-tournaments like EVO with hundreds of entrants across multiple titles are a staple abroad, they’re a relatively new addition to the Filipino landscape. With that in mind, here’s a handy survival guide of what you need to know heading into Rev Major 2019.

What is Rev Major?

Rev Major is an annual multi-fighting game tournament founded in 2017 and organized by PlayBook Esports and Gariath Concepts (of Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit fame). The tournament is one of Southeast Asia’s premier fighting game community (FGC) events alongside the likes of SEA Major and Thaiger Uppercut.

This year’s Rev Major will be hosting official tournaments for 12 titles, an apt representation of the Philippines’ diverse FGC. Some of the brackets will even have bearing on international circuits/leaderboards.

While competitor registration is closed, prospective attendees can still avail free spectator passes.

Tournament Lineup

Tournament Schedule

For both days of the event, the venue will open at 9:00AM. The start time for each game varies, though the first wave in general will begin at 10:30AM. It is advised to be at the venue as early as possible to check-in and not miss anything.

Stream Schedule

Can’t make it to Rev Major 2019? The organizers have put together six different livestreams to ensure as much coverage of the event as possible.

Tekken 7 and DragonBall FighterZ will be broadcasted on their respective official Twitch channels, while the other titles will be divided between GGNetwork’s Facebook page and the Twitch channels of both Gariath Concept and Playbook Esports.

Venue Layout

Rev Major 2019 features the largest venue a fighting game event in the Philippines has ever had, the Tent at the Solaire Resort and Casino.

Not only will there be dedicated stations for every title, but also three stages with their own viewing areas, a variety of sponsor and vendor booths, food options, a smoking area and a community tournament area. And of course, what local esports event would be complete without a Honey Lemon distribution corner?

Side Events

In addition to the official tournaments, local communities have banded together to host brackets for some smaller, older or niche titles.

There’ll also be a retro gaming arena run by local collector Stephen Reverente, a side tournament for the locally-developed Bayani: Kanino Ka Kakampi and a PHP100,000 2v2 Tekken 7 tournament powered by Globe Telecom’s Philippine Pro Gaming League.

Editor’s Note: Talk about stacked. Are you hyped for Rev Major 2019? So are we. See you there!
