StarCraft II and Hearthstone Kick off at the SEA Games 2019

Today is a landmark for esports history as the inaugural esports event at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games kicks off at the FilOil Flying VCentre in San Juan, Manila. For the first day, the group stage for StarCraft II, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Hearthstone started earlier noon with Arena of Valor and Dota 2 to follow on Saturday, December 7.

Participants were sorted into two groups, where in a round robin format, everyone had to play each other.

StarCraft II

Tran “MeomaikA” Hong Phuc of Vietnam and Caviar Napoleon “EnDerr” Marquises-Acampado of the Philippines lead their respective groups with a clean 5-0 record on their belt. Khun of Malaysia and Toh of Singapore follow MeomaikA in Group A, while Enrique of Indonesia and Kopankiewicz of Singapore trail behind EnDerr in Group B.

Aukit “Patoyao” Kittikrairit of Thailand leads Group A with a 4-1 record, while Hendry Koentarto “Jothree” Handisurya dominantly ended the round robin with a 5-0 sweep. Yew of Malaysia and Nguyen of Vietnam and Chew of Singapore and Popan and Thailand are respectively tied for second and third in their groups and will be battling once again for seeding.

The fight for medals continues tomorrow December 6, 2019 at 9:30 AM for Hearthstone’s upper bracket and 1:15 PN for StarCraft II’s upper and lower bracket finals.
