The penultimate day of the SEA Games esports events in the Filoil Flying V Arena featured the gold medal match for Dota 2 between the Philippines and Thailand.

The Philippines kicked off their quest for the coveted gold medal in perfect fashion by taking game 1. Thailand was quick to bounce back to even the tie 1-1 but the Filipinos shut them down in game 3 to get within striking distance of the championship. The Thais rode off the back of their dominant Anti-Mage to push the series into a deciding game 5.

The Thailand squad completely manhandled the greedy Philippine lineup in the early stages of game 5 which allowed them to snowball confidently into the midgame. The Filipinos, however, held on and waited for the perfect moment to unleash their Enigma’s Blackhole. They eventually did, and it resulted in a 13k team networth swing in their favor. Another crucial Blackhole caught Thailand’s Drow Ranger out for 2 minutes without buyback, which spurred the entire Philippine team to go straight for Tier 4’s and the Dire Ancient to clinch the first-ever SEA Games Dota 2 gold medal.
