As announced by Riot Korea, the League of Legends Champions Korea will move to a long-term franchising system in 2021.
In the franchising model, organizations will take part in league revenue sharing, business investments, and long-term sponsorships alongside the league’s growth. Furthermore, Riot Korea will be implementing a minimum salary of 60 million KRW or about $49,000 to ensure the players’ financial stability over the course of their careers.
As a result, LoL Challengers Korea will be discontinued in place of an Academy league to help foster talent in the region. The shift towards the partnership model follows the LCS, LPL, and the LEC who have moved to a franchising model in the past years.
