Damwon Stomp DRX in LCK Summer Finals
Damwon Gaming sweep DRX 3-0 in the Grand Finals of LCK 2020 Summer to win their first championship in the team’s history.
Continuing their 16-2 streak from the regular season, Damwon played calm and steady in Game 1 pulling out a scaling composition focused on Jang “Ghost” Yong-jun’s Caitlyn. Despite pulling out Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon’s undefeated Lilia, DRX couldn’t make the early-game plays they needed to snowball the game and eventually lost to Ornn and Caitlyn.
Damwon then kept up the pace and pulled out their signature Nidalee and Renekton duo on Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu and Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon in Game 2. Standout mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon got an early advantage on his Jayce but couldn’t quite turn the game around to DRX’s favor. Thus, Damwon just ran down DRX with the lead they got from top side.
In Game 3, Damwon continued their strategy with Renekton and Nidalee taking first blood and first tower in under 11 minutes. Afterwards, it was Heo “ShowMaker” Su’s time to style on DRX in a mid-game teamfight when he got a triple kill on his Akali. With a comp that gets outscaled, DRX’s hopes to turn the series around dwindled as the game went on.
Damwon’s win in the Grand Finals cement their spot as the best team in Korea and the region’s first seed at Worlds 2020.
