The Semi-Finals of the AcadArena Alliance League Summer 2020 had its upsets and stomps with the storied University of Sto. Tomas Teletigers and the up-and-coming Holy Angel University Valiant Esports coming out on top after the dust settled.

Missed out? We put together a recap of the Semi-Finals where the Teletigers, Valiant Esports, UPD Oblation Esports, and FEU iTamaraws went all-out in the playoffs weekend.

David Befalls Goliath Once Again: HAU Valiant Esports 3-1 UPD Oblation Esportsd

Coming into Day 1 of the Semi-Finals, the community saw Oblation Esports making quick work of Valiant Esports in the first round of the playoffs. Oblation Esports were coming off an undefeated 4-0 record in Group A and were poised to take down a sloppy and uncoordinated Valiant Esports from Group B.

However, in the opening game, HAU made a show out of their opponents with a 15k gold in their 24-minute win. To kick off the snowball, Corg1’s Hecarim got First Blood off of Solace’s Sylas which put him behind in the mid lane. After a valiant solo kill by Redplank’s Mordekaiser, HAU were able to put up the pressure and ran UPD down in the following fights to take the win.

FEATURED STORIES

Following their dominance in Game 1, HAU never let up and continued their streak with a 23-minute stomp. HAU once again came out of the laning phase with a 6,000 gold lead and were able to take Baron Nashor shortly upon spawn. At this point, UPD were at the point of falling to a clean sweep at the hands of Valiant Esports.

In Game 3, UPD went back to basics drafting Kha’Zix for Levi and Mao’kai for Kreindel and were able to one-up HAU throughout the game. The priority that Yobu’s off-meta Ziggs pick brought a lot of utility to the team that allowed the carries to shine.

It would all be for naught however as Game 4 had HAU go back to their teamfight-heavy style that styled all over UPD. Oblation Esports had a good early lead on Levi’s Evelynn which set him up to carry the game. But, key pickoffs on his Evelynn and Solace’s Lucian didn’t allow UPD to play out their composition. Slowly but surely, HAU took the win at 32-minutes with Ocean Soul in their back pocket to secure Grand Finals.

All In A Day’s Work: UST Teletigers 3-0 FEU iTamaraws

As the undisputed favorites of the league, the UST Teletigers came in firing on all cylinders with Pao’s Yone and Dane’s Akali. With a significant lead after a delayed ace at eight minutes, UST’s dive-heavy comp outpaced the slow and steady teamfight playstyle of FIT. The Teletigers indeed showed that they came to play after a dominating 26-minute win.

In Game 2, the iTamaraws fought back taking kill after kill in the early-to-mid game on Yato’s Kha’Zix and Oww’s LeBlanc. However, the assassin duo couldn’t snowball the game hard enough which allowed the Teletigers to simply outfarm FIT. The solo laners and the jungler each had at least 60 CS up on their counterparts which just gave them the tempo they needed to edge out every fight.

Lastly, FIT tried to shake it up with Deux coming in as their starting ADC. Despite a smart attempt at flexing Shen into Camille, the Teletigers brought in their own flex with Camille going mid which put Jovan into an unfavorable matchup against Lucian.

Once again, the iTamaraws had a good early game trading blow for blow with the Teletigers.  However, UST’s macro game was on point taking tower after tower which gave them a gold lead despite the kill disadvantage. At the end of the game, FIT weren’t even able to take a single tower as UST took their entire base and created so much space with their splitpush composition.

The Grand Finals of the Predator AcadArena Alliance League will have the University of Sto. Tomas Teletigers face the Holy Angel University’s Valiant Esports to see who is the leading squad in collegiate League of Legends.
