Nexplay and Team Secret Above The Curve in PPGL 2021: North Luzon Regionals
Nexplay Esports and Team Secret stand atop North Luzon going 4-1 on the Wild Rift in Week 1 of the PPGL 2021 Summer Split.
Nexplay Esports, Team Secret, Galaxy Racer Esports, and ActionPH went head-to-head in best-of-three matches to qualify for the playoffs of the Summer Split. The matches took place on April 9-11, 2021 and will resume on April 16 for the following week’s games.
In Day 1, Team Secret went off to a dominating start going 2-0 after taking down GXR and upsetting NXP 2-1. Nexplay Esports was heralded as the team to beat in the tournament as they have been winning tourneys left and right in the past year.
The next day, GXR got their first and only win thus far against APH in a swift 2-0. At this point, it was clear that Team Secret and Nexplay Esports were building themselves a rivalry to come in the regionals and beyond.
In the last day, NXP was able to return the favor to Team Secret as Aaron Mark “Chuley” Bingay stepped up on his Gragas and Orianna to close out the 2-0. Despite their loss, Team Secret have been growing at a rapid rate since their inception and have a lot of room to grow.
In the coming week, all eyes are on Nexplay Esports and Team Secret to continue their hold over North Luzon. Galaxy Racer Esports, on the other hand, has a tough road ahead itself if they hope to qualify for the playoffs ahead.
The summer regionals will take the Top 2 from the Group Stage after a triple round robin. These teams from North Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will be hoping to take a cut of the ₱900,000 PHP prize pool up for grabs in the playoffs.
