Work Upset Nexplay, Aura Rout Omega In First Day Of MPL Playoffs
Freshman team Work Auster Force come out with the upset 3-1 win over fan-favorites Nexplay Esports and eliminate them from playoffs. Over at the Upper Bracket, Aura make a statement 3-1 win against Omega Esports.
The Dark Horse
Touted by analysts as casters as the dark horse of the tournament, Work Auster Force came into the matchup as underdogs. Nexplay took Game 1 on the back of H2WO’s Ling and Exort’s Lunox, who had 10/3/11 and 10/5/8 performances, respectively.
Work bounced back in Game 2 in dominant fashion, finishing the game with 15 kills to NXP’s three. This time, it was Chuuu piloting the Ling who took over, who was involved in 13 of Work’s 15 kills. Work proceeded to close out the series in speedy fashion, with games 3 and 4 finishing in about 16 and a half minutes each.
With the win, Work-Auster Force proceed to the next round of the playoffs, facing the loser of today’s matchup between Bren Esports and Blacklist International. Nexplay Esports are eliminated from the contest.
Marathon Match
The first Upper Bracket match went all the way to five games as Aura PH and Omega Esports duked it out in a 2-and-a-half-hour series.
Game 1 was the longest game of the season by far, clocking in at 46 minutes and 29 seconds. The game almost ended on a backdoor attempt from Aura PH, but Hadjizy’s Ling and KurtTzy’s Benedetta were able to stop Killuash’s Thamuz and Lord Hadess’ Granger.
The two teams proceeded to trade games until Aura landed the final blow. A massive 11/3/3 performance by Bennyqt on the Lunox helped secure the win in the 36-minute Game 5.
Aura will move on to the next round of the playoffs, facing the winner of today’s Bren vs Blacklist matchup. Omega drop to the Lower Bracket and will face off against the winner of Onic vs Execration.
