Ladies of Philippine CODM: The surviving teams in Liga Adarna
Liga Adarna, the country’s premier women’s esports league, is officially in crunch time as Liga Adarna Season 3: Women Rising All Women Esports Tournament for Call of Duty: Mobile enters the second part of its playoffs this June 25-27, 2021.
The tournament’s third iteration saw huge success last week, gaining the most viewers in more than a month as teams went back and forth with each other in order to advance to the next stage.
The team behind the league acknowledges the teams’ efforts and gameplay and expects it to be even more competitive from here on out until the championship game.
“I am so proud, and at the same time I’m so grateful that more girls are joining the Liga Adarna tournaments. Every team from each region are all competitive and hope that they compete fairly up to the championship game. As of now I’m still happy that our campaign for girl gamers has been successful and I’m still looking forward to seeing more girl teams in the Esports industry,” said Hazel Joy Crisostomo, Liga Adarna and Eplayment Entertainment Tournament Administrator.
With the first stage already in the books last week, teams are getting ready and gearing up for the final showdown this weekend.
Here are the teams left competing for the coveted title of Liga Adarna’s Season 3: Women Rising CODM tournament.
XDG LXIX
Arguably the best PH girls team right now, LXIX is coming into the tournament as the favorites to win it all. The team feels proud that fans hold them to such a high regard but also admit that there is additional pressure for them to perform at the level the community expects them to. “We are delighted to hear these praises from people and it shows that all our efforts are not put to waste. But at the same time, it adds pressure to ourselves because we feel like if we commit some mistakes or we lose some games people judge us immediately and say maybe it’s easy to defeat LXIX,” team captain Yakee said.
Fresh off a runner-up finish in the Valkyrie series, the major tournament in CODM for girls in Southeast Asia, the team got even more formidable than before when it acquired slayer and main fragger Yanina “Mia” Suarez from rivals Gaijin Invicta. Cyka and coach Emmanuel “Zara” Zaragosa cited that adding her adds more firepower to the team and that it gives the team even more confidence to play aggressively.
Moreover, Yakee bared that their experience in major tournaments will be their biggest advantage over the other teams moving forward.
“I expect us to execute our team plays better and have a better flow to it. Although sometimes there are still going to be jitters, because of the past experiences we’ve gone through I know the team will handle it better this time around,” she said.
Reconquer (RQ)
North Luzon qualifier number 1 Reconquer, or better known as RQ, banks on their bond as a team as they go through the tournament. The team also counts their trust and mindset as their main asset.
“We really trust and rely on each other that’s why our team is where it is right now. Even when we are in a game, we really trust each other that we’re all going to do our part. Sometimes this leads to some misunderstandings caused by frustrations but we still manage to understand each other and learn from our mistakes,” RYO said.
Despite being clan-less for almost a month now, the team stayed true to themselves and stuck together.
“I think that our team is very loyal whether or not we have a clan or regardless of what in-game clan we are in, our loyalty to our teammates is the biggest factor to the overall relationship of our team. When it comes to the team’s relationship there’s not really much of a problem, nothing changed. It’s just the same that we always decide and go as a team and we always think about what’s the best for the team moving forward,” team captain EyD and Akire added.
Although the team is relatively new compared to the other teams in the competition, expect the team to be tough as they continue their journey to compete with other teams.
“As a team we will definitely do our best. Win or lose. Winning is not just about the prize but on how you put dedication on every game. We will do our best to win this tournament,” Skyler said on a final note.
PDR Bees
Considered one of the veteran teams in the women’s pro scene, PDR Bees came a long way to reach where they are currently now. It all started when Wawu joined PDR and was given a chance to build a team and compete together with former teammates from NT, Siopao and Jinne. The team was then established in October of 2020. Since then, the PDR Bees had seen a lot of players moving in and out of the roster, until they brought in Kristine (from PAX) Sazi (from NRX) Nesteaaa (from VNT) and Umi (clan-less).
As she was building the team, Wawu admitted finding players for the team wasn’t that easy. “I wanted the best players for the team. Being skilled at the game was just a bonus if I ever found one, but the most important factor when selecting was players that are committed and disciplined so that both the team and our individual selves grow every step of the way,” she shared.
With the team securing a slot at the upper bracket, the team expects the road to championship to be tougher from here on out.
“It will be difficult because teams are improving but I hope we make it. We’ll double our effort and show our hunger to improve,” Tine and Sazi said.
VVV Creed
VVV Creed, from illustrious organization VVV Esports, comes into the competition relying on its roster’s familiarity with each other. The core members composed of Cali, Ayi, Selle and Louise have been together for almost a year now, dating back to July of last year. Ica was then added to the team in September 2020 while Yu, Sab and Pia joined them in January 2021.
Pia, a newly added member to the core lineup of the team, pointed out their determination and passion as keys to meshing together well as a team.
“Honestly since the lineup has seen a lot of changes up until this current version, we really allot time to grind and practice in order to build our team chemistry. We always share our individual knowledge with the team to help each other out,” she said.
Additionally, as the tournament is fast approaching, the team vows to show their improvements come playoff time. “We want to show everyone that we are always improving in every single game that we play and that there will be less errors and more teamwork. We also hope that more girls would be encouraged to join tournaments, especially major ones so that they could learn more about gameplays and see the essence of fighting for a title,” team captain Cali said.
KE Uprising
Sometimes, changing scenery and seeing things from a different perspective work wonders for a particular situation. For 151 and KE Uprising, it has certainly been the case thus far.
Since leaving PDR Bees, 151 has thrived playing together with her new teammates at KE Uprising. Moreover, the team, albeit being only together for just almost a month, is making waves in the women’s competitive scene as they have garnered 5 championships from minor tournaments in such a short span of time.
Carti and team captain Bug talked about the team’s cohesiveness and chemistry as to why they’ve been able to achieve this early success. “Every day our team has scrimmages against other teams and often joins tournaments to enhance our skills and build good chemistry. Though we’ve been together for only a month, we’ve learned from all our losses and managed to grow all together. When we lose a game, we talk about what went wrong and use that as a learning moment to make ourselves stronger. Communication really is the key,” they shared.
Regardless of what happens during the playoffs, expect KE Uprising to show everything they’ve got. “Despite being a new team, we would like to exhibit and properly showcase the different strategies that we practiced together with our coach. This season of Liga Adarna is a big opportunity for us to showcase our strengths as a new team,” Geli said.
Aim Artemis
Aim Artemis darts into uncharted waters for the first time in a while as they maneuver through Liga Adarna without 3 players from their Top 4 finish in the Valkyrie Series last May.
The team lost Kimberly Anne “Kimy ” Lim, Samantha Race “Sammy” Elane and Joanna Rose “Azrie” Aplacador due to a variety of undisclosed reasons. As a result, the team had to bring in Paigey, Lili, CHIQT and Elise to add to the current holdovers Muji, Scarlet and Yssa.
Although the team missed the aforementioned three players, they’ve learned how to cope and adjust to the situation, team captain Yssa said. “Of course it reached a point where we were saddened by their departure from the team but in the end, we had to respect their decisions. Right now, we’re playing for them and continuing the legacy of Artemis on their behalf. It’s all worth it though because we qualified for the playoffs in Liga Adarna.”
As for the new players, they’ve stressed out going through some ups and downs but their teammates helped them adjust to the team as fast as they could.
“Being newly inserted in Artemis there’s always going to be pressure at the start but later on we were able to loosen up because the players here are easy to get along with. Adjusting was a bit of a challenge since it was a whole new playing environment. After multiple scrimmages and tournament matches, I felt that the connection of the team grew more and more as time went on,” duo Paige and Elise stated.
RTL Lumiere
RTL Lumiere was formed last year on June 28, 2020 and was composed of Foxy, Sushi, SKYY, Beii, and LOONS. The quintet was together from the start, sticking as a team on different occasions including stops from different clans such as MW (Most Wanted) before ending up on RTL. They later added 2 players from XDG, Sam and Blaze, which in turn completed their current lineup now.
Lumiere, being among the teams with the most players lined up in their roster, admitted the pros and cons of having that situation. “Honestly, it’s hard because some of us are in college already. There are months that I have to take breaks because I can’t handle the workload as a college student and Team captain for Lumiere so it really helps that we have subs in the team,” SKYY said.
“Right now, we’re okay being 7 in the team. I guess what we do to make the most out of the players is to let everyone play in modes and maps they know they play their best in, to make sure we have the best lineup set out for each mode and map,” she added.
For these coming playoffs, people can look forward to the team’s traits in their quest to be the best. “What the audience can expect to see from this team is dedication and gratitude. With the help of the players we have, we are more confident that we can achieve higher heights,” Sushi affirmed.
PDR Angels
PDR Angels, PDR Bees’ sister team, heads into Liga Adarna bringing their lengthy individual experience playing the game. With most of their members playing the game since its inception way back 2019, the team has seen it all. From rosters, guns down to tournaments and ruleset changing over time, they have made their way in and out of the scene as well as anybody.
Led by team captain Aurora and longtime teammate Chanel, the team also underwent a lot of roster changes until the duo added former champions with LXIX Love and Pibs. The quartet ventured through tournaments in the scene before adding Woppay, Vante, and Athena in the succeeding months of the team’s existence.
“Before I entered PDR, I had no experience of being a team captain. At first, the pressure was not the only problem I faced, but also the struggle to have a strong sense of being a leader to discipline my team. I let time take its course until it has taught me leadership skills and accountability that I can use not only in the game but also in all aspects of life. As we practiced every day as a team, we were slowly realizing the importance of teamwork, responsibility, communication, and hard work as these drove us to grow into one of the most competitive girl teams in CODM,” Aurora bared when asked about the team’s growth.
Win or lose in Liga, the tournament will help the team to know its errors and problems as a team that are needed to be fixed for our future tournaments, Chanel and Vante emphasized. “You will witness women that are extremely gifted and have a strong playing mindset. We always remind ourselves that whenever we’re playing, always stay modest and keep on believing in our own capabilities,” the duo said in succession.
VVV Flambeau
Another team from the vaunted lineup of squads under VVV, Flambeau, a team name coined by manager Trixie, means a ‘flaming torch’ in French. She shares it signifies their team’s spirit — that in everything that they do, they have that burning passion to accomplish all that is impossible.
Though the team has only been around for around 2 months, they make up for their short longevity as a team through players who have been playing for more than a year now. Led by Trixie (from NRX) and KarenDJ from (BREN/Venti), they established a team in VVV along with Aly (from Aim), Sodina (from SS), and Marstella (from VVV Imperatrix) and Skrxt (from VVV Revenite). As for Jaile (from WE), she was chosen by the team to fill in a gap as they needed another player for Liga.
The team also mentioned that despite coming from different teams, they are proud of what they’ve achieved in a short amount of time and that they would put in work to improve their chemistry even further with the goal of reaching the top of the scene.
“At first, I was still unsure because this is a new team, that is it will more likely be back to zero again but then I got to know them, I saw everyone’s potential and they’re really promising players that’s why I’m proud and grateful for these girls for all their sacrifices and efforts for our team,” team captain KarenDJ stated.
“I’m happy with my teammates because we’re not just casual players but we also have the desire to get into major tournaments and be committed to be pros. With that being said, we should improve our chemistry even more in order for us to perform better in the tournament,” Marstella, Sodina and Aly said in unison.
