New Arcane trailer promises much more than just conflict between Jinx and Vi
Riot released the first full trailer for Arcane, the highly-anticipated animated series set in the League of Legends universe, during Netflix’s Tudum Streaming event yesterday. While previously posted teasers and promotional material leaned heavily on Jinx and Vi’s relationship, the trailer promises much more than that.
“Up there, on the surface. The Topsiders are leaving the Undercity farther behind.”
Set in the conflicting cities of steampunk utopia Piltover and its dark underbelly Zaun, the trailer shows brief shots of a scheming Silco and a regal-looking Mel. Both characters are series originals that will most likely play a huge role in how the tension between the two cities unfolds.
The trailer also shines more light on Jayce, who is seen denied a request by Professor Heimerdinger. Based on the character reveal for Viktor, it’s safe to say the events of Arcane will play out before he became a mix of flesh and hextech augmentations obsessed with the Glorious Evolution.

Jayce and Viktor didn’t consider each other friends but the two shared the fact that they were on equal intellectual footing, albeit ostracized by their colleagues for entirely different reasons. It would be interesting to see if the series dives deeper into their relationship given that their respective backstories contradict the ideals and misunderstand the true nature of the other.
“Protect the family.”
Another new face given screentime is Vander. It’s unclear what his relationship with Jinx and Vi exactly is but he is seen carrying the sisters out of what looks like a fire and giving earnest advice to Vi. A father figure of some sort.
So how will Jinx and Vi’s story play out? Jinx is hellbent on causing chaos while her now-Piltover-Enforcer sister appears to be determined to reunite with her. The trailer ends with Jinx and Vi with their backs against each other fighting off a common enemy. How they got to that point, well, my guess is as good as yours.

The good news is, the wait won’t be very long. Arcane’s first act will be released on Netflix on November 6th and will contain three episodes. Two more acts with three episodes each will then air in the subsequent weeks.
Final note: at some point in the trailer, Caitlyn says “she’s too far gone,” presumably referring to Jinx. The Sheriff of Piltover said the same line word-for-word in her Legends of Runeterra reveal video when Jinx was summoned on the enemy board.
