Forget Naming Yourself ‘Jeff Bezos’ nor ‘Amazon’ in New World Because You Can’t
If you’ve ever fantasized about naming yourself ‘Jeff Bezos’ or ‘Amazon’ in New World, prepare to be disappointed because you can’t. Players discovered that there were certain naming restrictions in Amazon’s newest MMORPG.
As initially reported by PC Gamer’s Morgan Park, naming yourself as the notable billionaire nor the multinational conglomerate is impossible as trying to do so would result in a “cannot be used” prompt appearing — just like when a player tries to input swear words.
A player also apparently cannot use variations such as “JeffB,” “Bez0s,” or”Be Zos.” However, a post on Reddit by user u/LaviTheTerroris shows a variation named “JeffrieBezos” appearing in the game. A variation that went “Beff Jezos” was also not censored.
Amazon isn’t the only company to implement this sort of game censorship. Back in World of Warcraft, users can’t call themselves “Blizzard” — although variations of the name can work.
Neither Amazon nor Bezos has officially commented on this issue. However, one can theorize that this censorship can be attributed to the controversies surrounding both entities — such as the reportedly horrible labor conditions of the trillion-dollar company and the tone-deafness of the former Amazon CEO.
