Onic PH got into the grand finals by sweeping Smart Omega 3-0 in the upper-bracket finals. Onic’s MPL-PH S8 roster is composed of Jaylord “Hatred” Gonzales, Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol, Mark “Markyyyy” Capacio, Gerlad “Dlarskie” Trinchera, Paul “Beemo” Sergio, Nowee “Ryota” Macasa, Allen “Baloyskie” O. Baloy, and Mico “Mico” Quitlong.
With Smart Omega in the lower bracket thanks to Onic, Blacklist defeated them 3-1 in order to get into the grand finals. Blacklist Internationals’s MPL-PH S8 roster is composed of Dexter “DEX STAR” Alaba, Mark “Eson” Gerardo, Edward “EDWARD” Dapadap, Jhonmar “OhMyV33nus” Vilalun, Danerie “Wise” Rosario, Salic “Hadji” Imam, and Kiel “Oheb” Soriano.
Despite the early dominance from Onic, the late game composition of Blacklist International, composed of OhMyV33nus’ Mathilda, Oheb’s Lunox, Wise’s Aldous, Hadji’s Yve, and Edward’s Barats, proved to be better as they got game one with a convincing comeback.
However, game 2 had a similar start with Onic leading the game early but they successfully held unto it until the game ended. Markyyyy’s Natan performance was the key that secured Onic the second game as he recorded a KDA of 8/4/4 with a kill participation of a whopping 75%.
Blacklist changed the flow of the series with the third and fourth games as they were the ones who started strong this time. All of Blacklist’s players punished Onic’s numerous mistakes despite the latter’s efforts to correct them. With the momentum on Blacklist’s side, they closed it out on the fifth game as Blacklist International became the back-to-back champions of MPL-PH Season 8.
The grand finals of the MPL Season 8 was held on-site but fans were not allowed to be present at the venue.
Hadji was awarded the MPL-PH Season 8 finals MVP. This is also his first MPL championship title as a veteran in the MPL-PH scene. He revealed that he attributes his performance to his teammates as they were supportive during his adjustment period when he joined the team.
Meanwhile, when asked about how Blacklist International plans to defend the code, especially in future matches like the upcoming M3 World Championships, Coach Kristoffer “BON CHAN” Ricaplaza simply answered: “The key is to dominate every single game. That’s how we protect the code.”
Blacklist International will be representing the Philippines in the upcoming M3 World Championships in December.
