Major League Gaming Announces Multi-Season Dota 2 League
In a statement released earlier today, Major League Gaming (MLG) will be partnering up with joinDOTA for a multi-season Dota 2 league, complete with Local Area Network (LAN) playoffs for each and culminating with a World Championship in the fourth quarter of 2015.
The three-season league will be exclusively streamed on MLG.tv, MLG’s proprietary video game streaming platform. Top teams from around the world are reportedly going to be invited into the league system, but there will be open qualifiers allowing for millions of Dota 2 players worldwide to compete in the league.
In a statement, Adam Apicella, EVP of MLG Properties said that: “We’re excited to be working with the Dota 2 community, and couldn’t have found a better partner than the team over at joinDOTA. Last year we designed our tournament in accordance with what the fans and competitors wanted to see, and we’ll continue to honor that approach with the upcoming league.”
MLG and joinDOTA will be working together to incorporate MLG Pro Points into the current joinDOTA League to allow players of all skill levels to earn points that will contribute to playoff qualification.
Details on the total prize pool have not been released yet as of press time, but a minimum of $475,000 in cash prizes and $90,000 in travel support have been promised by MLG.
