Listed as underdogs for the whole tournament. Played with only 60fps due to their devices. Only got to practice with a coach 4 days before the event. No problem at all for Blacklist International.

Blacklist International.Ultimate broke the code and defied all odds in CODM’s Eastern Final World Championship as they outlasted Singapore’s ALMGHTY in the grand finals to become the first-ever CODM Eastern World Champions on Sunday, December 12.

The Filipinos had to go through the eye of a needle to overcome a gritty challenge from the Singaporeans as they went the distance, winning 3-2 with the scores 150-84 in Hardpoint at Summit, 5-6 in Search and Destroy at Raid, 150-120 in Domination at Standoff, 134-150 in Hardpoint at Firing Range, and 6-5 in Search and Destroy at Crossfire.

The squad backed by Tier One Entertainment also notably defeated tournament favorites Qing Jiu Club (Q9) of China in the semifinals 3-1 and ALMGHTY 3-2 in the upper bracket finals earlier in the day to secure a place at the grand finals.

FEATURED STORIES

Behind the win and the celebration, the PH representatives faced many doubts and disadvantages prior to becoming world champions. Even before the start of the world championship, the team already faced adversity as they only met and practiced with a coach just mere 4 days before the event. They were also considered as the underdogs, with virtually no major CODM esports figure picking them to come out and finish top 2 in their group to proceed to the playoffs. Furthermore, they suffered another disadvantage as they were forced to play on iPhones with only 60fps against teams that had 120fps from their Sony Xperias (Blacklist’s own Sony Xperias did not arrive on time). Even so, they pulled through and showed how far determination and hard work can bring them.

With this win, Blacklist International.Ultimate is set to take home 300,000 USD (equivalent to around 15 million pesos), which is the lion’s share of the 1,000,000 USD prize pool.
