Season 12 Kicks Off With Teleport Changes
League of Legends officially kicks off Season 12 with patch 12.1. While this patch isn’t particularly a big one, a rework to a certain mechanic is causing people’s heads to turn. This mechanic in question is the summoner spell Teleport.
Often taken by mid and top laners, Teleport is a handy summoner spell to have as it allows players a quick way back to lane, or an avenue to join a fight on the other side of the map. Riot Games, however, feel like this gives too much agency to the spell, stating “it flexibly offers both safety and a high level of game influence… In an effort to bring back some balance, we’re reshaping the spell by tempering its offensive capabilities early, and then upgrading it later on to retain its exciting mid-to-late game impact. “
Players will now be starting the game with a Teleport that can only be used on allied towers. Teleport becomes Unleashed Teleport at 14 minutes, regaining its previous ability to be used on minions, wards, and allied constructs.
This change will have big implications, especially in the bot lane which becomes the target for teleports during early skirmishes. Not only will bot laners enjoy their newfound peace (albeit for only 14 minutes), top and mid lane skill expression during lane phase would also be emphasized as they will no longer be able to rely on pulling ahead early with a quick teleport to the bot lane.
Patch 12.1 is expected to arrive to Philippine servers on January 6, 2022.
