7 Easter Eggs From Your Favorite Games
It’s finally Easter Sunday and you know what that means: it’s time to hunt for some easter eggs! Easter eggs in video games range from subtle references to pop culture, nods to previous games of the franchise, and blatant in-game items that aren’t hiding the fact that they’re from another video game franchise.
As such we’re bringing you 7 easter eggs from your favorite games that you can find for yourself.
Note: In order to keep the list as short as possible, we have decided to choose only one easter egg per video game franchise. However, characters/references that appear in a different franchise will count.
Minecraft Mobs in Blocks
There are a lot of secrets in Minecraft. We all know about the nametag tricks like “Dinnerbone“, “Grumm“, or “jeb_” but did you know about the mobs hidden in plain sight? If you haven’t noticed, some chiseled blocks in Minecraft incorporated some mobs in their design. It doesn’t really affect mob spawning in the game but it certainly gives an eerie vibe once you realize you’ll never escape some mobs.
How to get the easter egg:
In order to see the mobs plastered in a chiseled block design, you’d have to examine certain blocks closely. Here’s a list of mobs with their corresponding blocks:
- Chiseled Nether Bricks – Wither Skeleton
- Chiseled Polished Blackstone – Piglin
- Chiseled Red Sandstone – Wither
- Chiseled Sandstone – Creeper
Companion Cube in Terraria
Moving on to Minecraft’s arguably greatest competitor, we have an easter egg from Terraria. People have seen Terraria referencing Minecraft but some have never encountered their reference to the Portal franchise. A Companion Cube is a recurring object in the Portal franchise that also happens to be a pet in Terraria. The pet itself has a lot of references (both grim and harmless) to the Portal franchise such as its reaction to being dropped into lava and stabbing the player when it’s dark.
How to get the easter egg:
You can acquire this pet via purchasing the summoning item from the Traveling Merchant for 5 platinum coins. It is by far the most expensive item in the game so you better start saving up.
Nut Allergy & Plants vs. Zombies
Plants versus Zombies was a hit game back in the early 2010s. From young tweens to your 60-year-old grandma, everyone enjoyed gardening in this apocalypse game. However, did you all know about the very rare easter egg in the game? A regular zombie with a nut allergy will develop an allergic reaction after consuming a nut. The allergy also triggers a very unique death animation.
How to get the easter egg:
There’s a very small possibility of a regular zombie developing a nut allergy after taking bites from a Wall-nut (or Tall-nut). It’s absolutely nuts to discover this as only a few had ever witnessed this rare phenomenon.
A Secret Item from God of War 4’s Collector’s Edition
Collector editions of games tend to have a special in-game item for the player who bought them. As for those who bought God of War 4’s Collector’s Edition, it comes with a map that you can decode for free in-game loot. The map has details of a treasure that Brok & Sindri lost which led to their falling out in the game. The treasure loot in question is the Forbidden Grip of the Ages which increases all of Kratos’s stats.
How to get the easter egg:
In order to acquire this loot, you need to follow these steps perfectly:
- Go to the Musphelheim Tower in Midgard
- Look at the temple, then left, then back to the temple, then to the right, then left, back again to the temple, then look down, then to the right, then to the left, and lastly at the temple again.
- A magical portal will appear and the Forbidden Grip of the Ages is now in your hands.
Kratos & Gang in Horizon Forbidden West
Horizon Forbidden West is one of the newest games on this list but it has its own fair share of easter eggs. One of the easter eggs that made us ecstatic was the series of War Totems that featured God of War characters. Collecting them all would also unlock a Legendary Face Paint called Mark of War (and it’s definitely Kratos’s iconic face markings).
How to get the easter egg:
Here’s a list on how to get the war totems:
- The Totem of War (Kratos) can be found in the snowy region in the northwest of the map. You first need to scan an axe stuck on a tree that will lead you to a cabin that looks like Kratos’s cabin in God of War. Scan the cabin again and you’ll find the Totem of War.
- The Totem of Youth (Atreus) is located in the Isle of Spires. Look for two palm trees that are littered with arrows and scan the shorter tree. Once you’ve followed the trail, you can acquire the totem that’s on top of an LED sign frame.
- The Totems of Brotherhood (Brok and Sindri) No Man’s Land’s South-Western area. Scan a hammer by the downed Widemaw along the beach. Follow the trail to a triangular rock formation and voila you’ve got the totems.
Berserk easter egg in elden ring
Elden Ring is a game littered with tons of easter eggs. They have references to George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones, Dark Souls, and, most surprisingly, Berserk. Berserk is a Japanese manga series and anime that is set in a medieval dark fantasy world that is infamously known for its grotesque and gory illustrations. As for which Berserk easter egg we chose, we ultimately decided to feature an endearing possible tribute to Berserk creator Kentaro Miura — the Swords in the Ground.
How to get the easter egg:
In order to get to the site, you have to travel to the most southern part of the map just right outside Castle Morne. It is very hard to miss as we’re talking about giant swords in the ground here. One sword bears the inscription “The siege of Castle Morne. A lone hero fights for his vengeance. Only to fall at the hand of Lord Godfrey.”
Secrets at VALORANT’s Shooting Range
Just recently, VALORANT has been hiding a lot of easter eggs in the game which all reference the next agent. There are dossiers on every map’s defender side that leaked the agents’ real names while there are audio files underneath the shooting range. It might be old news to some but the latest patch added some new easter eggs to find which some of you may have not discovered yet.
How to get the easter egg:
In order to access the easter eggs in the shooting range, a player must make their way into the stairs just left of the shooting range. Once you get down, you can make your way into a room full of interactable objects that all detail the mission the agents were facing. Beware of the sudden paranoia attack as it may have been from the new agent.
Hope you guys find all of these easter eggs for yourselves. Happy Easter once again and best of luck to your easter egg hunting adventures!
