ONIC Philippines Overcomes Nexplay EVOS 3-2 in MPL-PH Season 9 Playoffs
ONIC Philippines managed to overcome Nexplay EVOS via a 3-2 victory in a best-of-5 series that went all the way in the MPL-PH Season 9 Playoffs.
Nexplay overpowered ONIC in Game 1 as they created and then maintained a sizable lead all throughout the game. Kenneth “CADENZA” Castro’s hooks with Franco made it possible for his team to set up takedowns. Meanwhile, Game 1 MVP Michael “MP the King” Endino burst down squishy targets while his teammates Mariusz “Donut” Tan (6/0/12) and Raniel “URESHIII” Logronio (2/0/15) accomplished their support roles while recording no deaths.
Looking for revenge, ONIC immediately answered back as they took Game 2 from Nexplay. Similar to what Nexplay did in Game 1, ONIC kept their opponents back with a networth lead throughout the game. Kairi “Kairi” Ygnacio Rayosdelsol’s superstar capabilities showed as he recorded a flawless 5/0/11 KDA. At the same time, Gerald “Dlarskie” Trinchera’s signature Uranus also had a deathless record of 5/0/9 KDA.
With the series tied, ONIC seized Game 3 away from Nexplay. The game was fairly even as it went to the 6-minute mark but ONIC had other plans. Game 3 ended swiftly after the last clash at Nexplay’s base just several seconds shy of the 20-minute mark. ONIC kept Nexplay on their toes as they forced them to be defensive this time around.
Prior to the start of Game 4, the live-audience crowd clamored for Nexplay’s John Paul “H2wo” Salonga, and their calls were answered. H2wo was subbed in for MP the King. The decision proved to be a wise one as H2wo’s Ling played immaculately. Simultaneously, Jeniel “YellyHaze” Bata-Anon’s Yve went 4/0/12 with CADENZA labeled as the game MVP with another hooking masterclass on Franco.
With both teams at matchpoint, ONIC emerged as the eventual victor. The game started in such an intense manner that the first objective trades (ONIC secured the first turtle while Nexplay destroyed the first turret) happened before the 3-minute mark. Ultimately, the last lord clash proved to be fatal for Nexplay as ONIC capitalized on the 3-versus-4 situation.
As such, ONIC PH moves up to face RSG PH in the playoffs while Nexplay EVOS exits from the tournament.
