SIBOL Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Bags Second Esports Gold for Philippines in 31st SEA Games
The SIBOL Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) representatives bagged the gold medal at the 31st Southeast Asian Games as they defeated Indonesia 3-1 in the best-of-5 grand finals.
The series started with both teams getting one win each, as SIBOL took Game 1 while Indonesia got Game 2.
The intensity of the gold medal match only went up for the third game of the series. Indonesia got the upper hand for most of the early minutes as they cleared the map and forced SIBOL to be on the defensive. However, SIBOL managed to perfectly repel Indonesia’s onslaught on their base. SIBOL’s perseverance finally paid off as they danced around the third Lord and capitalized on the successive mistakes of a defending Indonesia which led to their victory.
The series ended in Game 4 as the Philippines swiftly took the victory. The match was initially plagued by multiple technical pauses that hindered the progression of the game. Despite that, the Filipino representatives retained their composure. Eventually, SIBOL punished a crucial mistake from Indonesia which led to a siege and base-rush victory.
This marks the second gold medal for the country in MLBB as the Philippines also won the gold medal back in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
As for the rest of the SIBOL representatives, the Women’s Wild Rift team secured the first esports medal for the Philippines as they won gold. Meanwhile, the League of Legends (PC), Arena of Valor, CrossFire, and PUBG Mobile -Team representatives of SIBOL all continue to seek more medals to add to the tally at the 31st SEA Games.
