Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Beta Initial Thoughts
The Modern Warfare 2 Beta has finally arrived and it feels fantastic, for the lack of a better word. The new Call of Duty game only offers four playable maps with limited game modes but the time I spent on Beta was enough to conclude that the average CoD player would be easily convinced to pick up the game. Here are our initial thoughts on the Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Beta:
Let’s start with the positives. The game returns with its tried-and-tested weapon progression system where you play games in order to unlock attachments to your desired gun.
This alone gives the players the room for creativity to modify their loadout and opens things up for more playstyles as they progress. All guns have a unique feel due to their unique sprays and ways to control them. Call of Duty franchises have the same gun mechanics throughout the franchise but it feels like the gun control is getting further optimized.
The SFX of the game is crisp and mastered well as you can hear sharp audio effects that you can feel in your headphones during your gameplay. Gunshots, explosions, and airstrikes all feel immersive.
Footsteps are not only extremely detailed, and it feels authentic. You can feel the chills whenever you hear someone running toward your location and you can’t spot the enemy on the map.
The map design was a little tight and felt chaotic due to its fast-paced gameplay, but it’s functional. Most objects are interactable and reactive when they are shot, which is as expected of games in the franchise.
The run and gun mechanics of the game was also satisfying. The fast-paced shooting gives people the rush of just letting the bullets rip.
Lastly, The game performance of the game feels smooth, no latency issues and everything renders as the players loads into the lobby. The graphics look the same but it is smoother compared to the previous games.
Unfortunately, while being an addictive game the Beta version has some issues in some points of the game.
Some maps give players errors during the lobby entry and the game crashes if your GPU isn’t set properly. Hopefully these bugs will be fixed during its release on October.
The minimap also doesn’t show players shooting. This is in stark contrast to the game’s predecessors where you can spot the enemy in the minimap when they shoot as they’re marked with a red dot on the map.
Although Modern Warfare 2 beta isn’t in its best form at the moment, the game gives players that nostalgic feeling when playing the game in contrast from the previous Call of Duty franchises. Although it doesn’t feel new, the beta version gave players a good time, and that’s sufficient for many.
