League of Legends returns to Riot Games

Initially released by Riot in 2009, League of Legends has become the number one MOBA in the world, boasting over 180 million players worldwide. The game is also one of the most watched esports in the world at 5 million peak views during League of Legends Worlds Championship in 2022. The game is enjoyed by many all over the world, and it has even become a favorite for players in Southeast Asia.

Since Riot has regained publishing rights to League of Legends, as well as Teamfight Tactics PC, in Southeast Asia, players were given the opportunity to migrate their existing accounts to RiotThe SEA servers officially opened in January 2023. Now, players will enjoy deeper content integration within the Riot ecosystem, and exciting in-game content, as well as future local marketing activations, community tournaments and partnerships.

FEATURED STORIES

Now that Riot’s SEA servers for League are officially live, here are the top 5 things to expect from the game’s return to Riot.

Access to in-game events and cross-franchise campaigns already available in other regions

Before League of Legends started being self-published by Riot, the SEA players had to deal with a delay in updates to the game. Other servers got to enjoy the new updates and features while the SEA server had to wait a while before the updates would drop in their region.

However, now that Riot is self-publishing League, the game publisher aims to enhance SEA players’ gaming experience by giving them access to the in-game campaigns and cross-franchise campaigns that are already available in other regions, including game modes such as Clash which is launching in next month, esports drops, and the continuation of LoL esports.

Better access to player support and other resources

Aside from opening the new SEA server, Riot is also working on improving its presence in the region by setting up local offices. The game publisher has started opening local offices in key countries like the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. With the setup of these new offices, Riot hopes to be able to improve support for SEA players by providing access to publishing services like Localization, Billing, and Player Support.

A new ranked season

With a new SEA server under Riot comes a new season. Riot hopes that Season 2023 will bring players a familiar but fresh League experience. Season 2023 begins with two ranked splits in League, and there will be a ranked reset in between, as well as a variety of rewards. Starting this season, players can now earn full ranked rewards for each ranked split. Rewards include icons, emotes, ranked skins, and ranked borders.

Clash, League’s new in-game tournament mode

With the new ranked season, Riot is also introducing a new monthly in-game tournament known as Clash. It’s a competitive game mode for a team of five to compete against other teams that are on the same skill level.

Players can start forming their teams on Monday of Clash Week, but the actual matches take place over the weekend, on Saturday and/or Sunday. If your team wins all three games, you will be awarded a trophy plus a ton of awesome rewards, and the more games you win, the better the prizes will be. If your team loses in the first round, don’t be discouraged – you can still play consolation games, which can help you improve your prize pool.

Riot also has more plans in store for community tournaments, as well as open tournaments that will be open to amateur and pro teams.
