WPM LowKings slays ALMGHTY in CODM Garena Masters 4 Playoffs
The West Point Mamba (WPM) LowKings scored the biggest win of the CODM Garena Masters 4 so far after slaying ALMGHTY yesterday, 3-1.
The Filipinos outclassed the Singaporeans in a way nobody else did in the tournament so far. The two teams traded the first two games in Hardpoint at Firing Range 250-181 and Search and Destroy at Hacienda 6-8. The LowKings then pounced on the next two games in Control at Raid 3-2 and Hardpoint at Summit 250-210 to close out the series.
WPM team captain John “Yop1” Manalang spearheaded the LowKings’ conquest of AMT by winning MVP. He had an average score of 3772.25 and an overall 1.08 K/D ratio.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway of the WPM’s win is that they broke AMT’s streak in the Control game. Coming into the match, the Singaporeans had a 16-game winning streak in Control dating back to the CODM Garena Masters 3. ALMGHTY was utterly dominant that it took almost two tournaments before someone defeated them again in the game mode.
In the end, the ones who ended the impressive streak were the team that was called ‘the uncrowned kings’. What made it even more impressive was that the LowKings did it the hard way. They fell into an early 0-2 deficit before coming back by winning 3 straight rounds to complete the reverse sweep.
The win enabled the LowKings to advance to the upper-bracket finals of the tournament. They will await the winner of the Smart Omega-Blacklist Ultimate matchup in the other upper-bracket semifinal match.
Meanwhile, the rest of the matches from Day 2 include:
- Blacklist Ultimate vs 4S Kings (3-0) – Blacklist made quick work of their first opponent in the playoffs by beating the 4S Kings, 3-0. They now advance to the upper bracket semis where they will face bitter rivals Smart Omega.
- Broke Boys Club vs Huntsmen (3-0) – In the first lower bracket matchup of the day, Broke Boys Club (BBC) bid the Hunstmen’s campaign in the tournament goodbye after sweeping them 3-0. BBC now continues their lower bracket run where they await the loser of the Smart Omega-Blacklist Ultimate match.
- SKADI vs 4S Kings (3-0) – SKADI lived to fight another day after taking out the 4S Kings in the second lower bracket matchup, 3-1. Up next for them is a showdown between Singapore’s ALMGHTY.
