Taiwanese-Canadian content creator Jeremy “Disguised Toast” Wang’s esports organization, aptly named Disguised, has formed a VALORANT Game Changers (GC) team with Kaede Alicia “Kyedae” Shymko, his fellow OfflineTV creators Jodi “QuarterJade” Lee and Sydney “Sydeon” Parker, and GC players Tenzin “tenzin” Dolkar (formerly Team TEA) and Lydia “tupperware” Wilson (formerly Immortals).

The Disguised GC team is set to compete at the upcoming open qualifiers for the VALORANT Champions Tour 2023: Game Changers North America Series 1. The team is also set to stream both their scrimmages and practices in their respective streaming accounts.

This isn’t the first VALORANT team Disguised Toast has formed as his first team involves former T1 and 100 Thieves player Joshua “steel” Nissan, Mongolian pro Amgalan “Genghsta” Nemekhbayar, Canadian player Damion “XXiF” Cook, aspiring Filipino Joseph “clear” Allen, Drake “Exalt” Branly, and Chris “riku” Piasecki. The team is currently competing at the VALORANT Challengers League: North America after getting in through the open qualifiers.

Unfortunately, Disguised Toast’s new GC team has also been met with criticisms, most notably from GC player Jellyfish—who previously played for Overkill and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot—calling out the roster for its four streamers.

“It feels disrespectful that [Disguised Toast] originally [asked] for actual players to build a roster for [Game Changers] and then builds a team [with] 4 very popular streamers [instead],” Jellyfish started her Twitter thread, ranting about how the Disguised GC roster, save for Tupperware, isn’t competitive and it took away the opportunity for other GC players.

Disguised Toast has responded to Jellyfish’s tweet and revealed that, although he did receive a lot of great recommendations for a GC roster, he felt like it would’ve been irresponsible to just form a hastily-made roster given the time crunch they are in.

“The structure would just not be in place to support a new team,” Disguised Toast clarified.

He then assured that the players are taking the Game Changers seriously and doubled down on why they can be competitors and streamers at the same time as well.

“You do not get to gatekeep them from this event just because they are streamers,” Disguised Toast stated. “Respectfully – no player is owed anything in the competitive space. Everyone is grinding. Everyone is sacrificing their own time to make it. You don’t deserve an org more than the next person,” he continued.

Furthermore, he also stated that he wasn’t ready to commit to a roster financially hence why he opted for the content creator-focused approach.

Given Disguised Toast’s response, Jellyfish has stayed firm in her opinion but is still on the fence about how this roster would potentially impact the overall GC scene.

“I have no issue with streamers playing. I have no issue with any of the girls on the team. I’m happy to see anyone eligible to participate. I am grateful for the increase in viewership this can provide,” she stated.
