DLSU Viridis Arcus starts AllG CODM title defense with rousing win over TUP-M
De La Salle University’s Viridis Arcus began their CODM title defense with a rousing win over a hapless Gearhawks Esports squad of the Technological University of the Philippines – Manila (TUP-M) Sunday, April 23 in the ongoing Alliance Games Season 3 CODM Group Stage.
The 9-time CODM Alliance Games champions went around and overcame their opposition in Hardpoint at Summit 250-183 and Search and Destroy at Slums 7-5.
DLSU actually struggled to put away TUP-M with the newcomers providing the defending champions some headaches in both games with calculated aggressiveness and timely pick-offs. However, experience and superior talent eventually prevailed in the end as Viridis Arcus closed both games out with their signature gameplay.
Standout Marthur James “Mjay” Barongan Bayle was lauded for his efforts with his MVP of the match honors. The 20 year old had a total of 7456 match scores as he led a balanced attack for DLSU.
“Honestly it feels surreal because our hard work is paying off and we are living our dreams at the same time finishing our studies and we want to keep on going and leave a legacy that will be remembered,” Mjay said talking about their De La Salle’s CODM title defense this season.
Mjay along with YungJ and Static lead a Viridis Arcus team with 3 new members this year after losing 4 players from last season. He and his team aim to claim another title despite the roster changes DLSU has gone through over the past few months.
“The new changes to the team are always welcome. I think it made our team more diverse wherein we added Zayn, 6ix9ine, and Susanoo to the mix. They are versatile, coachable, and fit right into the Viridis Arcus system,” he shared.
Meanwhile, New Era University’s (NEU) PDG Odyssey was the surprise team of the match day as they served up two sweeps — one against TUP-M as well and another one against Mapua University’s MGS Ares.
On the other hand, last year CODM split’s finalists University of San Agustin’s (USA) SAGE Ultimate are off to a good start as well after winning their first two games. SAGE overcame a tough challenge from Far Eastern University – Manila’s (FEU-M) TFX Atlas 2-1 then swept its sister school FEU Institute of Technology’s (FIT) FIT Dasig 2-0.
Finally, TFX Atlas prevailed in the last match of the day in an inter-FEU matchup with FIT Dasig, 2-1.
