Prior to their faceoff against DRX, Secret’s Pacific League record puts them in danger of missing out on the playoffs given that the team had already accumulated four losses. As it turns out, the Adobo Gang was simply cooking up specific anti-strategies for DRX as revealed by Jessie “JessieVash” Cuyco in the post-match interview.
“I think we were focusing too much on DRX and we kinda forgot about the other teams. That’s why we keep losing to other teams and won against DRX,” said the Team Secret veteran. “Since day 1, our goal was really to beat DRX,” he continued.
Off to a hot start, Secret won Game 1 on Haven 13-8. The first game of the Team Secret-DRX series marked the return of DRX’s Kim “Zest” Ki-seok (김기석) after his 50-day absence on the tournament server, with his last game going back to the first week of action where DRX swept ZETA DIVISION.
Despite Zest’s return, Secret managed to limit his Sova to 12/15/6 while the Filipino Sova-main JessieVash himself went for a modest 18/14/5 finish. Meanwhile, Jim “BORKUM” Timbreza’s 224 ACS on an 18/13/5 KDA granted him the first game’s MVP honor.
Moving on to Game 2, Secret closed out the series in a close 13-11 outcome on Ascent. They trailed 9-3 prior to halftime which gave them the chance to activate the infamous curse. As luck would have it, Secret went on a 10-2 run in the second half to turn the tide and defeat DRX.
At the time of publishing this article, Team Secret is in sixth place with a 4-4 record. They have another upcoming matchup this Superweek as they go against Global Esports on Monday, May 15, 2023.
