USA’s SAGE Esports upset 10-time defending champions DLSU Viridis Arcus to win Alliance Games CODM
The University of San Agustin’s (USA) SAGE Esports has done something teams of the past were not able to do: defeat De La Salle University’s (DLSU) Viridis Arcus in Alliance Games CODM.
For the longest time, Viridis Arcus was the reigning and defending king of collegiate CODM. The team from Taft was so dominant they did not lose a single series in almost two years. DLSU kept winning and winning en route to their mind-boggling 10 straight titles.
But not in CONQuest 2023.
SAGE Esports put on a performance of their lives as they take down the La Sallian giants, 3-2, in the Alliance Games’ grand finals in SMX Center in Pasay. The boys from Iloilo came all the way to the capital and stun the 10-time champions, ending their long reign in the CODM collegiate scene.
The match was a back-and-forth all around, with DLSU taking the first lead by winning Game 1 Hardpoint. SAGE struck back immediately by winning Game 2 Search and Destroy to tie the series up at 1-1.
DLSU dominated Game 3 in Control to take back the lead, 2-1, and move one map away from their 11th straight CODM title. Yet, USA refused to go down.
They won an impressive Game 4 in Hardpoint, putting Viridis Arcus on their heels for the first time in respawns. DLSU has long established respawn game modes to be their best mode, yet SAGE Esports made them bleed at their best. If teams wanted to have a chance to take down the mighty DLSU squad they would have to do it in those Search and Destroys.
And yes they did.
SAGE Esports did the improbable by winning in Game 5 Search and Destroy to win the Alliance Games’ CODM Season 3. What was never been done before was done by the boys all the way from Iloilo. They came and went straight to the capital and ripped the hearts out of the 10-time defending champions. The win was so incredible they left DLSU’s powerhouse squad baffled and looking for answers.
There is a new king in the collegiate CODM scene. They are the University of San Agustin’s (USA) San Agustin Golden Eagles (SAGE) Esports.
