To kick off the matches for the day, LOUD faced EDward Gaming (EDG) where they reverse-swept and eliminated the last Chinese representatives in the tournament.
LOUD lost the first game on Bind as EDG’s gamble to put Zheng “ZmjjKK” Yongkang on Reyna paid off as he posted twenty-six kills and five assists with the agent, contributing to their 13-11 loss on the map.
The second game on Ascent was a mirror matchup as both teams ran with Omen, Sova, KAY/O, Killjoy, and Jett. Ultimately, LOUD was the better team between the two as they dominated in Ascent by going 13-5.
As the game went on to the decider map, LOUD completed the reverse sweep by winning a close third game. The two teams were neck and neck in Haven, with LOUD starting the game with a flawless opening pistol round thanks to a 4K by Felipe “Less” Basso while ZmjjKK went online late in the first half to tie it up 6-6 by halftime. In the end, LOUD booted EDG off the tournament by winning the third and final game 13-11.
Up next, FNATIC’s series against DRX saw this year’s back-to-back international champion win via a 2-1 reverse sweep as well.
Just like LOUD, FNATIC lost the first game on Bind, embarrassingly losing 13-1 against a DRX composition that had Goo “Rb” Sang-min on Yoru. Fortunately, FNATIC recovered just in time for the second game on Haven and won it 13-9 before they themselves followed LOUD and completed a reverse sweep by winning the third game on Split 13-6.
As a result of today’s outcomes, FNATIC and LOUD will be facing each other for the second time in the VALORANT Champions 2023 playoffs. The last time they fought, LOUD dropped FNATIC to the lower bracket in the upper bracket quarterfinals via a 2-0 sweep.
