UC Webmasters and USJ-R Adelante Esports Set Grand Finals Rematch in CESAFI Esports League VALORANT

The Webmasters of the University of Cebu – Main Campus (UCMN) and the Adelante Esports of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) set themselves a grand final rematch in the CESAFI Esports League (CEL) VALORANT after both teams secured their tickets during the second week of playoffs yesterday, October 29, 2023.

CEL’s Dark Horse Remains Undefeated

First to secure their grand finals ticket were the Webmasters as they took down the Wildcats from Cebu Institute of Technology – University in the upper bracket finals. They did it by overcoming massive deficits in the first half only to run it back and win both games via huge comeback upsets, going 16-14 in the first game in Lotus and utilizing the 9-3 curse to win the second game on Haven 13-11.

After the series, Dante “𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐳𝐞𝐫𝐚” Tumulak of the UCMN Webmasters admitted they were feeling the heat and the burden of having targets in their back as the team to beat this season.

“Feel namo [naay] pressure gamay (We feel a bit of pressure),” Neekzera revealed in a post-match interview. “Kami ang target sa tanang team (We are the target of every team),” he added.

An Arduous Path From The Lower Bracket

Meanwhile, the Adelantes of USJ-R had a tougher journey en route to their grand finals of CEL VALORANT.  

After falling to the lower bracket in the previous week, the Adelantes faced the Webmasters of the University of Cebu – Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue and defeated them 2-1. The series featured a third game that went 17-15 in overtime—the longest overtime in CEL VALORANT so far.

Then, with the Wildcats falling to the lower bracket thus matching the two teams up, the Adelantes took the last grand final spot of CEL VALORANT after a long best-of-three series. They lost the first game on Split 14-12 in overtime, then took the second game on Ascent 13-7 to equalize the series, and poetically ended it by finishing the third game on Haven 15-13 in overtime.

The CESAFI Esports League VALORANT grand final will be played in the IEC Convention Center of Cebu on November 19 during ARCHcon Cebu 2023.
