Filipinos have a lot of potential for creativity, especially in games. That’s according to the team at Ubisoft Philippines, which recently celebrated the opening of its new studio in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

“We have a lot of potential in our creativity,” says Studio Art Director JP Tan in an interview with Esports INQ during the vent. He gave examples of specific mechanics, areas, and features that the Ubisoft Philippines studio worked on. Contributions by the Ubi PH team can be found in titles like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Valhalla, to name a few.

“My approach is to engage the artist’s strength and personal experiences. We empower our teams to inspire themselves from all sorts of influences and inspirations,” he added.

The developers and designers also gave the media a studio tour, proudly showcasing the game mechanics and areas the team was responsible for.

Studio Manager Chip Go gave the Filipino game developers in Ubisoft some well-deserved commendations. “We’re proud of how far we’ve come, being able to co-develop 12 AAA games and 3 DLCs since we started, with our team recently celebrating the launch of Skull & Bones, and our upcoming game Assassin’s Creed: Shadows that we also played a major part in,” says Go.

Meanwhile, Communications Manager and Diversity & Inclusion Head Lyka Nierras expressed her excitement at the opening of the new studio. Now that we’re in BGC, I see so many opportunities to connect to the community. This is just step one,” says Nierras. There’s a lot of untapped potential in the esports market in the Philippines,” she says, pointing out competitive Ubisoft titles like Rainbow Six: Siege and the newly released XDefiant.

“We want to let them know that Ubisoft is coming closer to where you are, to the talents, to help grow the community, and to help nurture the game development here,” Tan added.
