Pinoy bets in 2024 TFT Macao Open strive to round of 64
The 2024 Teamfight Tactics Macao Open is now in full swing, with the initial 512 competitors slowly getting culled to find the next player worthy to wear the Tactician’s Belt. There were five players who competed to represent the Philippines in the international TFT stage and strove to get close to the coveted championship.
TFT Macao Open is being held at the Venetian Macao, China. It began with 512 participants from all across the world. This included five Filipinos: MasterEls, Vince “mode” Leonardo, Allen Raye “OAS ARaye” Vibar, MarvelWizardKH, and Ezra “OBE Cytical” Guiao.
The tournament progresses in Rounds. The players are grouped into lobbies of 8, play through three TFT games, earn points based on their placings, and ranked by their total points afterward. The top four in each lobby get to advance and the bottom four are eliminated.
Content creator and local TFT personality MasterEls bowed out first among the PH bets as he failed to progress past the round of 512 after a 5th-8th-8th run. The other four advanced with the following records:
- mode: 1st-4th-1st
- ARaye: 2nd-7th-2nd
- MarvelWizardKH: 4th-1st-7th
- Cytical: 7th-4th-1st
With only 256 left, the Filipino players continued to be competitive. Cytical (7th-7th-7th) and MarvelWizardKH (1st-7th-8th) were eliminated in this stage, but mode (3rd-4th-2nd) and ARaye (1st-2nd-8th) advanced to the round of 128.
The two persevered past this stage too, with mode (2nd-2nd-7th) practically locking his qualification after only two games, while ARaye (6th-1st-5th) secured his thanks to finishing 1st place in the second game of this round.
At this point in the competition, only 64 remain to vie for the Tactician’s Belt. mode has consistently topped his lobbies so far, but in this round, he found himself in a lobby amidst Nicholas “FNC wasianiverson” Faust, Tristan “TL tleyds” Leyds, and Cho “T1 dunizuni” Jun-hee. His final accumulated points across the three games in this round were not enough, and mode exited the competition after placing 6th-8th-3rd in the round of 64.
ARaye’s lobby was equally challenging, and was dominated by the eastern competitors. Korean player Kang “T1 Binteum” Seong-jun and Chinese players Li “LiLuo” Guangcan, Nie “WOL Sheltie” Dingyuan, and qingzhou were the ones who qualified in his lobby. ARaye’s record of 6th-7th-5th spelled the end of his TFT Macao Open journey.
The 2024 TFT Macao Open is the second iteration of the event. The series debuted last year with TFT Vegas Open, where the Philippines had two competitors: Jose “josepao1o” Paolo and Rikki “Riku” Quiapon. They were eliminated in the round of 256 and round of 512, respectively.
