OAS ARaye on Macao run: I wish I could do more
Oasis Gaming’s Allen Raye “ARaye” Vibar finished in the round of 64 of the Teamfight Tactics (TFT) Macao Open. Experienced in the international stage, ARaye spoke on his recent experiences and future aspirations as a TFT competitor.
How did you get to the TFT Macao Open?
I mean, to qualify, kailangan nasa Challenger ka. So, yun muna. And then, Oasis sponsored my flight and my stay here. So, that is a big reason why I was able to come here.
How do you feel about your top 64 exit?
I’m definitely disappointed with how I played. Maybe because of lack of sleep, [but] I feel like I could have done even more – maybe top 8. I mean, 64 is nice, but I wish I could do more.
What can you say about the caliber of the players in this tournament?
Day 1, I really needed to [finish] top 4 on 2 games, so I’m really satisfied. There’s one game na I really didn’t care, pero I was satisfied overall with my performance nung day 1. And then Day 2, a little bit of bad luck, pero I could have done better, I’m pretty sure.
How was attending the event as a spectator?
I mean, the side events, 4v4 is a really fun game mode ng TFT na they should look into. So it was really fun, to play with other people that you know. And playing with other people kasi – small community lang tayo, so. Parang nagle-League of Legends na kalaban mo silang lahat. It was really fun to play with other Filipino players here.
How did you prepare for this event?
Mostly I just played a lot, especially scrims. Kasi since this set, they removed stats, so you can’t really study that much. Pero yun lang, mostly kasi I just play on my own intuition, instinct lang. Based sa understanding ko sa game, doon ako nagre-rely.
Kasi minsan misleading yung stats, so minsan parang na-ba-bait ka kung ano yung mga malakas na comp sabi ng ibang tao. Minsan kasi, you need to understand na what’s strong talaga from your spot. And you need to play more to know what’s strong.
Did you tell your friends and family that you’re headed to Macao?
Oh yeah! Beforehand, I said to my parents and my friends na I really want to go to [TFT Macao Open].
My friends are really happy kasi especially yung friend na nag-help sa akin na makakuha ng ticket. I mean, dapat kasama ko siya dito pero nagka-problema, so. Nagka-problema siya sa ticket.
Have you made your family try TFT?
No, I haven’t tried pero yung dad ko, last tournament ko, which is yung Worlds, nanonood siya. Yung kuya ko kasi na-understand niya, so parang in-explain lang nung kuya kasi kanya yung nangyayari. And then yung mom ko ayaw daw manood kasi nine-nerbyos daw siya pag nasa bottom four ako. Kasi minsan kasi yung playstyle ko, nasa bottom four simula eh kaya nakaka-nerbyos.
What do you do when you’re not playing TFT?
I stream, but honestly I just play with my friends din. [Lalo na] kapag start ng season, I just play a lot.
What are your wishes or goals as a competitor?
First of all, sana maging sikat na yung TFT sa Philippines kasi feel like it’s a really fun game. Second, [TFT Paris Open]. I want to go there. Then last is I really want to make it to the final day kahit online tournament na international.
